Terra Firma Psychiatry, PLLC, is the private psychiatry practice of Dr. Heather John, MD, PhD.
Dr. John works with adults (ages 18 and older) in the Philadelphia and Wilmington metro areas with a variety of mental health difficulties, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, interpersonal issues, and sleep issues. Dr. John is a psychiatrist who provides psychodynamic psychotherapy, with the addition of medications when appropriate. Her therapeutic approach is also influenced by residency training in cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, and reproductive psychiatry (the treatment of women in pregnancy and postpartum). The practice is located in Chester County, Pennsylvania, and Wilmington, Delaware.
Dr. John's undergraduate degree is in Human Biology, from Stanford University, and she has a Ph.D. in History, with a concentration in the History of Science and Medicine, from Yale University. She is a graduate of the School of Medicine of the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio. She completed her psychiatry residency at the UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, where she served chief residencies in Psychotherapy and Medical Education, and has additional training in psychodynamic psychotherapy from the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
